Psychotherapy Services FAQs
How does psychotherapy work?
Psychotherapy is a scientifically proven method to help individuals who are experiencing many different mental health disorders. From anxiety and depression, to PTSD and trauma, psychotherapy can treat an array of issues. Psychotherapy is grounded in the relationship between the licensed mental health provider and you, the patient. During treatment, the provider will assess your needs, concerns and work with you towards your specific goals, in a supportive and nurturing environment.
What are the differences between all the different approaches?
There are a wide range of treatment approaches found in psychotherapy. This allows the licensed professional to find the best modality for you. There are differences between the approaches, but each is grounded in the relationship between you and the therapist, the comfortable environment that is provided, and the best course of treatment for you and what you are struggling with. With so many treatment modalities available, a therapist can use more than one approach to best help you.
How long does it take to change how I am feeling?
It depends on many factors, including the severity of the symptoms you are experiencing and the treatment goals that you and your therapist decide to work on. If you come into therapy with a simple problem, it may only take a few sessions to feel better. But if you’re experiencing more complex problems, it can take months or even years to work through problems.
Is psychotherapy expensive?
At Memor Health, we work with many health insurance companies. We will work with you and your insurance company to see if the therapy sessions will be covered. If you do not have insurance, please contact us for price information.
What questions should I ask my therapist?
During your initial evaluation, your therapist will ask you many questions to help better understand the needs you have, as well as questions to get to know you. Prior to your first appointment, you can ask the following questions to find out more about the practice and the therapists available to you.
- Are you taking new patients?
- Do you take my insurance?
- Do you have experience in helping people who are struggling with what I am struggling in?
- How long have you been in practice?
- What if I need to miss an appointment, is there a charge?
- What therapists are available to help me (be specific if you want a male or female)?
